The business was formed in 1991 as the UK subsidiary to Noristan of South Africa and the first products were launched on to the UK market in 1992. Shortly after this, Tillomed Laboratories Ltd introduced its first generic product, Atenolol, and this achieved a million pounds turnover by the end of 1995.

Tillomed Laboratories Ltd was established following a management buy-out in 1996 and, its first OTC product, Normaloe (Loperamide Tablets), was launched in July of that year. During the following year, a trade alliance was established with Hexal AG, a major generics company in Germany which has worldwide operations. This strengthened the product portfolio, resulting in a significent increase of Tillomed licensed products on the UK market.
